Ila Arun is one of the most popular Rajasthani folk Singer of India who is known for her mesmerizing husky voice. Her work area is not only limited to singing but she is also known for her excellence in acting as she is also an immensely popular actress in Indian television and Film industry. She also sings folk and folk-pop numbers which became equally popular with her album “Vote For Ghagra”, that sold more than 1, 00,000 copies created many records. She also appeared in several reality music shows as judge and also sung for the very famous IPL team Rajasthan Royals. there are many impressive appearances in both television and Indian cinema in which Ila Arun have left a mark and a huge fan following is there in India and abroad who love to listen as well as watch her.

Ila Arun Upbringing & Education

Ila Arun was born in Jodhpur on 14th of March and her father was a Rajasthan government employee as he worked for which was the state capital of Jaipur city and completed her schooling from there. She then graduated from Maharani Girls College in Jaipur and her family members are closely connected with the world of music and advertisement. Her fondness for music was there since childhood and she learned Rajasthani folk song and music at a very young age. She also loved acting and joined many theater groups too. She learned her acting skills from National School of Drama, New Delhi and she started acting in many small theaters in Mumbai. At the very first phase of her singing career may people did not like her voice as it sounded husky and masculine but with the song ‘Choli ke Peeche for the film Khalnayak which was directed by Subhash Ghai gave her the recognition in the playback singing in the Indian film Industry. For the past 15 years, she has been working in theater and cinema as actor, singer as well as a scriptwriter.

Ila Arun Career and Achievements

Ila Arun as Singer : Getting into folk-pop songs Ila Arun had released about 10 albums with mixed and compiled songs of her and more of them were hits. Some of the most successful ones were Vote for ghagra, Mare Hiwda ma, Khichdi, Mela, and others.

Before getting a Filmfare Award for the best female singer for the movie Khalnayak where she sang “Choli ke Peeche” and ‘Naayak Nahi Khalnayak Hai Tu’with Alka Yagnik she also sang another beautiful song in 1991 for the movie Lamhe where she sang “Morni Baga Ma Bole” with Lata Mangeshkar. Another song sung by her was in the movie Megha Re Megha. But she started her playback singing career with the song"Raina Bawari Bhai Re" for the movie Jaal in 1986. She worked with some of the most prominent music directors of Hindi Film Industry i.e. Laxmikant Pyarelal for whom she sang "Ye Ishq Dunk Bichhua Ka, Are Issei Raam Bachaye" and "Main Chhui Mui" "Meri Patli Kamar" along with Khalnayak. She also sang for Bappi Lahiri with Gutur Gutur which was a commercially successful song but did not give her any awards. Later on, in 1996, she sang for the legendary music director A. R Rahman and the song was in Tamil named "Muthu Muthu Mazhai" and "Paas Aaja Balaam" in Hindi. She again sang for the same music director in 2010 and the song was Kata Kata. Followed by her musical career she also sang for another prominent music director of South Indian Films Illayaraja and the song was "Thathom Thakathimi". She also added many music directors such as Vishal-Shekhar, Shantanu Moitra, Shankar-Ehsaan- Loy, and people loved her songs.

Ila Arun in Acting : Stating about her filmography and acting career; Ila Arun has worked in many Hindi serials which started from the very ancient and famous serial of Indian television-Bharat EK Khoj and the serial was telecasted on Doordarshan-India’s National Television and only channel to be watched. Next, she worked on another serial named Lifeline(Jeevan Rekha) which was also loved by people who watched TV at that time, also loved her character Hansha Mehta in Samvidhan serial that aired on Rajya Sabha TV. She also played in many films and there was huge fan following of his actress as every one could notice here talent in her acting skills too.

Ila Arun was one of the most noticed actors in Bollywood who mostly acted in serious or art films that were made with some intense stories and also with some o the very real-life characters. When she started her acting career in films the year was 1983 which was three years before her singing career and she played a Brothel girl and the film was directed by one of the most iconic directors of Indian Cinema Shyam Benegal. Next, she acted in another very serious film named Ardh Satya or Half truth where she played the character of Sneha Bajpaiandthe film was directed by Govind Nihalani. There were many films where she played a complete character and somewhere she played a cameo and many others. Some of the best films of her were Droh Kaal, Suraj Ka Satvaan Ghoda, China Gate, Ghatak, Jodha Akbar where she played a negative character of Maham-Anga and her acting was highly acclaimed. She also acted in some cameo characters such as in Auzaar, Lamhe, and also acted in a British film named West is West with veteran actor Late.Om Puri. She recent;y had her release in 2017 in Srijit Mukherjee’s Begum Jaan.

These days Ila Arun is also seen more in theater groups and she played in more than 10 adaptations till date.Her latest theatre production, Peechha Karti Parchayyaiyan, is an adaptation of Ghosts by Henrik Ibsen among all which is regarded as her favorite. She also participated in many reality shows such as Fem Gurukul where she played the Head MIstree or the Kul Guru and also been the judge on the Junoon-Kuchh Kar Dikhaane Ka; which was a celebrity reality show.

Ila Arun Personal Life

Ila Arun is married to Arun Bajpai who is a Retired Merchant navy Personnel and is having a daughter named Ishita Arun from her marriage. She has 7 sisters and two brothers name Piyush Pandey and Prasoon Pandey who are popular Ad film makers.
