Sahara One is an Hindi- language entertainment satellite television channel. It is based in Mumbai and is operated by Sahara India Pariwar. Subrato Roy Sahara is the chairman of the Sahara India Pariwar.
Sahara One was initially launched as Sahara TV on March 28, 2000, but in April 2003 it was renamed as Sahara Manoranjan. In order to attract more audience and also to compete with other channels once again its name was changed to Sahara One on October 10, 2004.
Sahara One Media and Entertainment Limited operates in the Motion Pictures and Television arena. Sahara One Motion Pictures is one of India’s largest movie production houses in the business of producing, marketing and distribution of motion pictures in Hindi and other regional Indian languages. Having produced over 35 movies in the last two years, the division is poised for rapid growth in the following months.
In February 2006 its sister channel FILMY was launched, which has an interesting, funny and irreverent presentation format. The channel has gained immense popularity amongst viewers and advertisers alike.
The television business operates three television channels – Sahara One Television which is a general entertainment channel, FILMY which is a Hindi movie channel and FIRANGI which is a world television channel in Hindi. Sahara One Television channel is associated with the top production houses and offers its viewers a large number of popular fiction and non-fiction shows.
