Jodhpur, One of the historic city of Rajasthan is just 32 kms away from Luni.
Mehrangarh Fort- Mehrangarh Fort was constructed by Rao Jodha in the year 1459 at an altitude of 150 m on a lofty hill. There are seven gates leading to this fort where visitors can see the marks created by the hits of cannon ball during battles on the second gate. There is a chhatri of Kirat Singh Soda, a warrior who fell down here while protecting the fort against Amber’s armies. This dome shaped pavilion which was built to express pride and honour in the rich culture of Rajputs.
Rai Ka Bag Palace– Rai Ka Bag Palace was built by Hadiji, the queen of Jaswant Singh-I, in the year 1663 and is located close to the Rai Ka Bag Railway Station. This octagonal bungalow was one of the favourite palaces of King Jaswant Singh-II.
The public ground of the palace was used to host the audience during the visit of Swami Dayanand Saraswati to Jodhpur in the year 1883. According to a belief, the King used to listen to this saint in this palace only. Presently, this palace houses the income-tax office of Jodhpur.
Umaid Bhawan Palace– Umaid Bhawan Palace, named after the founder Maharaja Umaid Singh is a beautiful palace and is also known as ‘Chittar Palace’ owing to its location on the Chittar Hill. The palace was constructed by putting together the chiselled sandstones in such a way that each sandstone interlocked with the other.
No mortar binding was used during the construction of the palace. This uniqueness attracts tourists in large numbers to visit this palace. It is a perfect example of Indo-colonial and art deco architectural styles.
Achal Nath Shivalaya– Achal Nath Shivalaya is a popular religious centre built by Nanak Devi, the queen of Rao Ganga, in the year 1531. Visitors can see a water reservoir known as ‘Ganga Bawari’ near the Shivling inside the shrine.
The temple houses various halls, constructed with carved Chhitar stones like the Garbha Griha, Mandap Bhavan, and Kirtan Bhawan.
Ganesh Temple– Ganesh Temple, dedicated to the Hindu Deity Ganesh is located at a distance of 5 km from the city of Jodhpur in Ratananda. According to a legend, a teacher saw a giant statue of the deity on the hills of Ratananda.
The statue’s height and width was 8 ft and 5 ft, respectively. This Ganesh Temple was built at the same place where the statue had been spotted. A large number of devotees visit this temple to offer their prayers to the deity.
Ghanta Ghar– Ghanta Ghar, built by late Shri Sardar Singh of Jodhpur is a beautiful clock tower. The Sadar Market is a popular shopping zone located near this tower. Tourists can shop for Rajasthani textiles, clay figurines, miniature camels and elephants, marble inlay work and classic silver jewellery at reasonable prices in this market.
Jai Pol– Jai Pol meaning, the ‘gate of victory’ was constructed by Maharaja Man Singh, the King of Marwar in 1806 to celebrate the triumph of Marwar over the arch rival kingdoms of Jaipur and Bikaner at a distance of about 5 km from Jodhpur city.
It is one of the hisoric structure and the most famous of the seven gates present in the imposing Mehrangarh Fort.
Jaswant Thada– Jaswant Thada, a beautiful marble cenotaph of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II was built by his son, Maharaja Sardar Singh in the 19th century.
It is located on the left side of the Mehrangarh Fort complex and is also known as ‘Taj Mahal of Marwar’ owing to its intricate marble carvings. The main memorial was built in the shape of a temple.
Kaylana Lake– Kaylana Lake, a artificial water body located on the Jaisalmer Road. This is a popular picnic spot, renowned for its natural beauty and have boating facility.
This lake has another part known as Takhat Sagar Lake, named after the King Takhat Singh and is located about 10 kms away from Jodhpur city.
Pali is about 57 kms away from Luni.
Lakhotia Garden– Lakhotia Garden, one of the famous tourist spots is located in the heart of the Pali City. A beautiful Shiva temple is located in the middle of the garden.
This beautiful garden is surrounded by a pond known as Lakhotia and a city tank.
Navalakha Temple– The Navalakha Temple was constructed in the 10th century. This temple is also known as the Naulakha Jain Temple and is dedicated to Parshwanath, the 23rd Tirthankara of the Jain religion and famous for its architectural style.
Somnath Temple– Somnath Temple is located in the main market of Pali. This shrine was built by the King of Gujrat, Kumarpal Solanki in the year 1209 and famous for its shilp art and its rich history. Tourists can see intricate carvings on the Shikar and pinnacle of the temple.
There is Shivling inside the Temple along with the idols of Parvati, Ganesha, and Nandi. Raj Kumar Pal Solanki brought this Shiva Linga from the Saurashtra region of Gujarat.
Adishwar Temple– The Adishwar Temple, also known as the Chaumukha Temple, was constructed during the 15th century. This shrine has a architectural style of a Nalinigulm Vimana, a heavenly aircraft. It is one of the largest Jain temples which took 65 years to be completed.
The building of the temple has three storeys, 80 domes, and 29 halls. Tourists can see pavilions supported by 1444 pillars at the base of the temple. The innermost part of the temple is adorned with a four faced image of Lord Adinath or Rishabhdev.
Bangur Museum– Bangur Museum, named after Mr. Bangur Juar is one of the popular tourist attractions of the Pali City. It is located every close to the old Bus stand of Pali and exhibits a rare collection of historical and artistic items such as costumes, coins, and arms.
Nimbo Ka Nath– Nimbo Ka Nath is located between Falna and Sanderav route and is one of the popular tourist attractions of pali city. According to Hindu mythology, the Pandavas stayed at this place when they were in exile. Kunti, mother of the Pandavas, worshipped the Hindu deity Shiva here.
Surya Narayana Temple– The Surya Narayana Temple has a unique architectural design which attracts large numbers of tourists.It was constructed in the 15th century. Visitors can see numerous friezes of Lord Surya inside the temple. One of the friezes depicts the deity riding his chariot, drawn by seven horses.
