Pilani is a small city situated in the Shekhawati demesne of Rajasthan. It is in the Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan and well known for the premium institute, BITS Pilani. The name Pilani is derived from a Jet Fighter from the Pilania gotra who died protecting a fort in the town. The king was impressed by his courage, bravery and honored him by giving his name to the town. Pilani is surrounded by small villages like Khedla, Jherli, and Dhindhwa Aguna.
